Sedalia Police Reports for August 7th, 2023

Last Thursday afternoon, an Officer was dispatched to the Casey’s store, 1101 North Limit Avenue, in reference to a theft report. An employee was stealing cash from the business instead of putting it in the safe. Catelyn S. Montgomery, 22, of Sedalia, was issued a court summons for Stealing and released from the scene.

Officers responded to the State Fair Eagle Stop, 1515 Thompson Boulevard, Sunday morning for a report of assault and theft. Lacey Shull reported being spat on by another employee and then that same employee taking an unknown amount of money from the business’ cash register before leaving.

Early Sunday morning, a truck was stopped in the 800 block of East Broadway Boulevard for failing to maintain its lane. It was determined the driver was intoxicated. Charles Joseph Wansing III, 52, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (Prior Offender). Wansing was placed under arrest and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Wansing was booked in on a state charge of DWI prior to release to a sober person.

Sedalia Police responded to Albright Court for a report of an injured cat early Sunday morning. The cat was injured in an unknown manner, and could no longer move. The cat had to be put down by Officers.

Officers stopped a car for moving violations Sunday morning in the area of East 5th Street and South New York Avenue. The driver was intoxicated, and a minor (19 years of age) was in possession of alcohol. Both were arrested. Guadalupe Chavez, 21, of Sedalia, was cited for Driving While Intoxicated. The minor, who was not listed in an arrest report, was cited for Minor in Possession of Alcohol.

Saturday morning, The SPD K9 Unit assisted the Missouri State Highway Patrol with a vehicle stop at West Broadway Boulevard and South Beacon Avenue. During the investigation, K9 Rocky was deployed for a free air sniff around the vehicle. Rocky alerted to the odor of drugs. A probable cause search resulted in the seizure of items related to illegal drug activity.

Sunday evening, Sedalia Police responded to the 2300 block of South Missouri Avenue for an assault report. It was determined a subject assaulted another subject. The subject was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

A vehicle was stopped in the area of West 15th Street and South Osage Avenue Saturday night after it failed to maintain the right half of the roadway. After an investigation, it was determined the driver was driving on a suspended license and was also intoxicated by drugs. Jason Dean Homan, 23, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Suspended and Driving While Intoxicated (Drugs). Homan was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked and released.

Late Sunday night, Officers responded to the 300 block of West 10th Street for a report of a peace disturbance. The caller reported his neighbor had continuously been yelling and creating unnecessary noise. The intoxicated neighbor was contacted, warned, and then arrested some time later for continued peace disturbance. Carol R. Gann, 55, of Sedalia, was arrested for Peace Disturbance. Gann was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked for Peace Disturbance and placed on a 12-hour Safekeeping hold.

On the afternoon of July 28th, a car was stopped after it failed to move over to emergency vehicles on a traffic stop. It failed to stop immediately upon the initiation of the traffic stop in the 3600 block of South Limit Avenue. The driver was intoxicated by drugs and arrested. Calista Jade Keltner, 19, of Florence, was arrested for two counts of Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle* and Driving While Intoxicated (Drugs).

Sunday afternoon, Officers responded to the 1200 block of Deseret Drive in reference to a domestic disturbance. Timothy Glenn Mull, 53, was arrested for a charge of felony Domestic Assault in the 4th Degree. Mull was transported to the BRHC for a fit for confinement check. After passing, Mull was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold.

Friday afternoon, Officers responded to the 2600 block of South Ohio Avenue for a report of a subject with mental health behaviors that was also reported to have a firearm. Contact was made with the subject, who was sitting in his vehicle. After securing the subject, the firearm was located and later seized for safe keeping. It was determined the subject was not a threat to himself or others, and was later released to the care of PCAD on his own terms. A general information report was completed.

Friday afternoon, Officers responded to the 1500 block of South Harrison Avenue in reference to a warrant check. A subject was located at the residence with a federal probation violation warrant**. The warrant was active, and the subject was arrested. John Louis Hamm, 46, of Sedalia, was arrested on his Federal Arrest Warrant with no bond.

Sedalia Police stopped a vehicle in the area of Wilkerson Street and South Park Avenue for excessive speeding, as well as careless and imprudent driving. Jacob N. Woolery, 36, of Sedalia, was arrested for felony Driving While Intoxicated (Aggravated), Excessive Speeding, and Careless Driving. Woolery was transported to the Pettis County jail to be placed on 24-hour hold, with bond on the DWI charge set at $7500 cash or surety.

Friday evening, Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 1400 block of South Grand Avenue. During the investigation, the driver was found to have an active and confirmed warrant out of Saline County. Jeffrey L. Comer, 42, of Sweet Springs, was arrested for his Failure to Appear warrant on original charges o Failure to Wear a Seat Belt and Excessive Speeding (20-25 MPH Over the Limit). Comer was transported to the Pettis County Jail pending a cash or surety bond of $250.00.

Friday morning, Officers were dispatched to the State Fair Spirits store, 1419 South Limit Avenue, in reference to a trespassing complaint. Dispatch advised the subject came into the store, caused a disturbance with the employee, and broke a bottle of alcohol. The subject was later located in the area of West 32nd Street and South Park Avenue, where they resisted arrest. After a short struggle, he was taken into custody. Jacob Marlon Basham, 37, of Sedalia, was booked in at the Pettis County Jail on charges of Domestic Assault in the 4th Degree, Harassment in the 2nd Degree, Burglary in the 1st Degree, Property Damage in the 2nd Degree, and felony Resisting Arrest. Basham was held pending a $25,000 cash or surety bond.

Sedalia Police conducted a warrant check Friday night in the 2200 block of West 1st Street Terrace. The wanted subject was located and arrested. Collin T. Bressie, 34, of Sedalia, had a Failure to Appear misdemeanor warrant for Driving While Revoked, which carried a cash only bond of $250.00. Bressie also had two Probation Violation warrants. One of the warrants out of Pettis County carried a $12,000 cash or surety bond on original charges of felony Possession of a Controlled Substance. The other PV warrant, out of Camden County, carried no bond on original charges of felony Domestic Assault in the 2nd Degree. Bressie was transported to the Pettis County Jail.

Friday morning, Officers were dispatched to the Motel 6, 3402 West Broadway Boulevard, in reference to a medical emergency. Dispatch advised a male subject was in a room and unresponsive. Officers arrived on scene and located the subject, who was on the floor and unresponsive. The subject was accessed, and two doses of NARCAN were administered by Officers. The subject regained consciousness and was treated by PCAD.

Sedalia Police conducted a subject check in the area of West 11th Street and South Osage Avenue. Contact was made with the suspect. A computer check of their information revealed several warrants for their arrest. David Jakie Wayne Peak, 38, Homeless, was arrested for his four Failure to Appear warrants on original charges of Failure to Display License Plates, Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility, Failure to Wear a Seat Belt, and Driving While Intoxicated. Total bond on the warrants came to $10,000 cash or surety and $299 cash only.

*Count One was for failing to move over, and Count Two cited the driver continuing for 48 seconds before stopping.
