A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Sedalia area beginning at 6:00 Wednesday evening and the city has activated emergency snow routes through Thursday afternoon.

According to a press release from the City of Sedalia, the potential exists for accumulation of up to 1 inch of sleet, followed by up to 2/10 of an inch of ice.

The weather system could result in slippery conditions on bridges, roads, and sidewalks beginning tonight and continuing through noon Thursday, when temperatures are predicted to rise and remain above freezing.

Should icing occur overnight, residents are encouraged to remain home and limit travel until Street Department crews have an opportunity to clear roadways.

The City says if light icing occurs overnight, to ensure the safety of Sanitation Department crews riding on the back of garbage trucks and to keep large garbage trucks off icy roadways, the Sanitation Department will delay their start-time by 2 hours (8:00 a.m.) for garbage and recycling pick-up, to allow for street conditions to be improved. It was noted that if significant icing occurs, garbage and recycling pick-up that occurs on Thursday, will be picked up Friday instead.

Parking is prohibited along Emergency Snow Routes as Street Department pre-treatment vehicles and plows need access to treat and clear the roadways, according to the press release.

Emergency Snow Routes are in effect from 6:00 Wednesday night through 12:00 Thursday afternoon.
