Job Interview Questions Sometimes Baffle Me

A lot of us out there haven't been lucky enough to land our dream job right out of school.  

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for a new gig.  I like my job, my co workers, the location, everything.  So don't get the wrong idea and come gunning for my office.  But it wasn't always so good.

As a matter of fact, several of us have been through quite a few jobs over the years. And it may be that some things have changed since the pandemic. I know over the years I've done everything from home health to library work, telemarketing to retail.  I'm sure you've had a few job interviews from time to time as well. But after the questions they ask you... it makes you wonder why they ask certain questions!

In one of my interviews I got the first question: "Describe your favorite movie in 14 words or less."  And you had to do it in your head, no pen and paper. So I was literally counting words on my fingers, like an idiot. Then they asked me how I'd get a client from the airport to the office, if they were flying into town to visit the company.  Huh? Um, drive there and pick them up?  Why is that a question?  And the interview actually got worse from there.  The questions had nothing to do with my ability to do the job. I guess maybe the movie one could test creative thinking in a tight spot, but still... it just felt like a way to make me feel stupid.

I don't really remember all of it, but when I interviewed to go full time from part time back in the early days of me working here, they asked me something about an alien landing on my front lawn.  I don't know what that was about.  I never did find out.

What's the point of these stupid interview questions?  Are interviewers these days looking online for random questions to test people?  I thought it was supposed to be a real conversation between two human beings.
