Jason Aldean Talks About the Importance of Music Videos in Country Today

Last month, Jason Aldean walked away a winner at the 2012 CMT Music Awards, snagging his first buckle award ever for the Performance of the Year. Aldean’s name was highlighted in two other categories during the awards, including Video of the Year and Male Video of the Year, both for ‘Dirt Road Anthem.’

Understandably, the singer was thrilled at the opportunity to have his first buckle, and can’t express enough how much he appreciates the CMT Music Awards for honing in on the hard work that’s put into music videos, a medium that some genres of music — and perhaps even other country awards shows — may see as dying out.

“I think this award show is a lot of fun,” Aldean told Taste of Country following his win. “Some of the other shows are real stiff. This one’s a lot more laid back. It’s videos. To us, videos are still so important to our career. It seems like now it’s so much harder because they don’t get played as much on TV, so people are having to go online to see them now. They are still so important, especially as new artist, to kind of keep your face and name and all that stuff out there.”

“There’s no other award show like this that we have,” the singer explains, still boasting the CMT Music Awards. “Usually on some of the other awards shows, the Video of the Year award is always the one that gets cut out of the show. It’s cool to have an awards show specifically for that.”
