Here’s How You Can Still Go Fishing Without Owning Any Equipment
If you like to go fishing but it's been a while since you've owned any equipment to allow you to try your hand at landing a lunker, the MDC has great news for you!
The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) can help you with the fishing gear through its free Rod and Reel Loaner Program.
MDC’s Rod and Reel Loaner Program offers free “loaner” fishing gear at more than 100 locations around the state, including many libraries, MDC offices and nature centers, some state parks, and several marinas.
If you're in Sedalia, there's three different spots that loan out the equipment-
Sedalia Parks and Recreation - 1500 W 3rd Street - (660) 826-7930
Boonslick Regional Library - Sedalia Branch 219 W 3rd Street - (660) 827-7323
Pettis County Extension Office 1012-A Thompson Blvd - (660) 827-0591
If you need other locations from around the state of Missouri, go to https://huntfish.mdc.mo.gov/fishing/get-started-fishing/rod-and-reel-loaner-locations.
In addition to getting a rod with a standard spin-cast reel, MDC also provides a small tackle box with hooks, sinkers, bobbers, and a stringer to hold the catch. Anglers need to bring their own live bait or desired lures.
