The State Fair Community College Renewable Energy Technology Club, “The Renewables,” will sponsor a Green Day in May 5K run/walk and a free renewable energy seminar May 3 on the Sedalia campus.

The race will start at 8:30 a.m. and will begin and end in front of the north entrance of the Yeater Learning Center. The course is 99 percent pavement. Preregistration is available through April 23; race-day registration will begin at 7 a.m.

Cost is $20 for adults and $10 for students with ID who register by April 23, or $30 for adults and $15 for students with ID who register after April 23 or on race day. All participants will receive free T-shirts, and post-race refreshments will be available. Proceeds will benefit club projects.

Medals will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in seven age categories. Parking will be available in the main college lot on 16th Street.

The interactive seminar, “Renewable Energy Assessment,” is open to the public and will begin at 11 a.m. in the Parkhurst Student Commons in the Stauffacher Center. Topics will include solar panels, solar thermal and biomass systems. Renewable energy technology will be on display in the commons.

SFCC adjunct instructor and retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Ronald Barrett will lead the seminar. Barrett is president and chief engineer at American Solar Wind Energy LLC of Holden, Mo., and Key West, Fla. The company does research, development and testing of renewable energy systems, material and components, integrating solar panels with wind turbines.
