Additional Information

The Daum Museum of Contemporary Art on the State Fair Community College Sedalia campus will sponsor its sixth annual “Bring Mom to the Daum” from 1-3 p.m. on Mother’s Day, May 10. It is free and open to the public.

The event will feature several art activities, as well as a Mother’s Day card-making station, caricatures by SFCC alumnus Dustin Mothersbaugh, live music by harpist Abigael Green, and a photo booth for costumed family snapshots.

Craft projects will be geared to all ages and abilities and will be inspired by artist Tanya Hartman’s current exhibition, “So That I May Carry You with Me,” including her series “Prayer Paddles” and “What Was Beautiful.”

Also planned are museum tours, refreshments and drawings for a Mother’s Day gift basket and a child’s art supply basket. The first 100 mothers will receive spring flowers.

Hartman’s exhibit features eight portrait paintings of people in the Kansas City area who came to the Midwest from around the world as refugees from genocide, political upheaval and societal breakdown. In her paintings, Hartman seeks to underline their value as individuals and their right to be seen as subjects—not just as the objects of history. It continues through May 31.
