Eric Church was on stage when George Strait sang his final song earlier this month in Texas. The 'Cold One' singer was part of a team of openers for the final, record-setting Cowboy Rides Away Tour stop, and he says he misses that moment.

"There was a point in time during the show when I looked over at George, and you have this levity of where you are," he tells Taste of Country during an interview before Country Jam Colorado. Describing the venue, the crowd and the overall atmosphere he adds, "It's one of those 'Is this my life, is this real?'"

Church says he misses feelings that surrounded him as he watched the King walk away. Calling it the most special night of his career, Church adds that he hopes it's not truly over.

"I've looked at it so many times, and what it meant. I'm a big George Strait fan, and I hope he comes back."

It sounds like he may indeed come back. Strait has indictated that he'll continue to play select dates in the years to come. He just won't embark on a lengthy tour ever again.

Day 3 of the 2014 Country Jam Colorado included a wild performance from Church, as well as sets from Jerrod Niemann, Craig Morgan and many more. This fall the 'Springsteen' singer will begin the Outsiders Tour.
