The Olympic creed begins “The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part.”

While that’s all fine and good, competitors only get to spend time on the podium if they finish in the top three, and every morning during the Games newspapers rank the participating countries on how many medals they have won.

The United States always finishes on or near the top of these medal tables. But does Olympic success make you proud to be an American?

According to a Rasmussen Reports survey of 1,000 adults, 77 percent feel national pride when Olympians from the United States excel. Fifteen percent don’t, and eight percent didn’t have an answer to the question.
