The Bothwell Regional Health Center Auxiliary will hold an ice cream social fundraiser on June 8 in the hospital cafe.

"It's something that we do every year as one of our big fundraisers," said Betty Sue Viterna. "Part of our goal as an auxiliary is to help the hospital in any way that we can to help the community."

Bothwell Auxiliary scholarship programs are among the group's initiatives that benefit from the ice cream social. "We offer two $1,000 scholarships for nursing education each year," said Karen Suroff. "This year, we're adding another $1,000 as a special tribute to one of our long-term auxilians: Anna Marie Bellamy. We call it the Bellamy Scholarship; it will be just this year. She just died this past year. She was 95 and worked to about a year before she died. This is in honor of her, and that scholarship will go to anyone in a health care field." Those interested in applying for one of the Bothwell Auxiliary's scholarships can pick up applications at the hospital gift shop from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The deadline for scholarship applications is June 30.

The ice cream social is one of several fundraisers the Bothwell Auxiliary conducts throughout the year. "The money that we raise comes back to the community," said Viterna. "We usually spend around $30,000 a year on different things for the community."

Hours for the ice cream social will be from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 8. Tickets are $4. Ice cream, homemade cakes, and a drink are included with a ticket. Tickets can be purchased the day of the event at the door, or in advance from Bothwell Auxiliary members. Kids five and under are free.
