Zac Brown, Mumford & Sons to Pay Tribute to Levon Helm at the 2013 Grammys
The two superstar acts will be joined by Elton John, T Bone Burnett, Mavis Staples and Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes for a performance of the Band's 1968 rock classic 'The Weight' during the memorial segment of the ceremony. The tune is considered one of the group's signature songs.
Helm first gained exposure as a founding member of the the Band, a Canadian-based act that is often regarded as one of the most progressive bands of all time. Their music infused old country with modern rock and rhythm elements to create a sound unlike anything else during the height of their career in the '60s and '70s.
The group experienced significant key member changes throughout their career. They released two studio and two live projects as the supporting band for Bob Dylan before disbanding in 1999. The Band received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008.
Helm, known best for his masterful musicianship and acting role in the film adaptation of 'Coal Miner's Daughter,' passed away from throat cancer last year at the age of 71.
Other country stars slated to appear to perform during the Grammy Awards include Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson and Taylor Swift. Miranda Lambert and Dierks Bentley will join forces on the big stage for a special performance.
Swift will kick off the ceremony with what is expected to be one of the biggest productions of the evening. The 2013 Grammys will air live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Feb. 10 at 8PM ET on CBS.
