With the many storms that have rolled through Missouri over the past week, most people are probably not aware that the Northern Lights have been visible in the northern parts of the state. A new video shows the aurora borealis, but also captures something else strange in the sky, too.

This is one of the reasons why I consider Dan Bush and his Missouri Skies YouTube channel a must-follow. Based on his video description, he was capturing a time-lapse video the night of May 16, 2025 or May 17, 2025 in an effort to record the northern lights. He did manage that, but something else appeared on the left side of the video. It's a smoky streak.

What is the streak he recorded in the sky over Missouri?

I think that Dan captured the remnants of a SpaceX rocket plume. I was checking the SpaceX launches and there was one that happened on Friday, May 16. It's very possible that the rocket plume on the video came from this launch.

Dan is one of the few people I know who regularly monitor the night sky over Missouri for interesting happenings and that's why you really need to subscribe to his channel so you don't miss interesting moments like this.
