UCM Ovation Performance Series Presents Jazz Quintet & SOLI Chamber Ensemble
The University of Central Missouri OVATION Performance Series presents two concerts for the fall 2023 season.
OVATION is a curated selection of world-class dancers, musicians, and theatre performers who bring exceptional high-energy artistry to West-Central Missouri.
The series opens at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28 with a performance by the Adam Larson Jazz Quintet in Hart Recital Hall. The quintet will perform compositions from “Narrative,” their debut record. Formed in New York City in December 2002, the band is comprised of five renowned jazz artists: saxophonist Adam Larson, drummer John Kizilarmut, saxophonist Chris Madsen, guitarist Scott Hesse, and bassist Clark Sommer.
All five artists maintain a national touring schedule as members of the quintet and on their own as solo performers. Larson and Kizilarmut are mainstays of the Kansas City jazz scene, while Madsen, Hesse, and Sommer are based in Chicago.
October brings the SOLI Chamber Ensemble to Warrensburg. Celebrating its 30th anniversary year, the group is dedicated to promoting music by living composers and was co-founded by UCM Music Distinguished Alumna Carolyn True. Dr. True’s return to the UCM stage will coincide with UCM Homecoming Weekend 2023. The performance will take place in Hart Recital Hall at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22.
SOLI Chamber Ensemble is comprised of pianist Carolyn True, violinist Ertan Torgul, clarinetist Stephanie Key, and cellist David Mollenauer. National recognitions have included the 2013 Chamber Music America award, an ASCAP Adventurous Programming Award, and a 2020 Chamber Music America Classical Commissioning Grant.
Both programs are made possible by support from the Missouri Arts Council and the UCM College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
Tickets for both events are available at ucmo.edu/musictickets. General admission for Ovation Series events is $20, with $15 tickets available for UCM employees, active military, and seniors 65+. Discounted student tickets are available for UCM and non-UCM students. For more information, contact the Department of Music at (660) 543-4530, or series director Dr. Mia Kim at mkim@ucmo.edu.
