Two Shot in CoMo Disturbance
On Sunday, at approximately 5:11 p.m., Boone County Joint Communications received numerous calls reporting shots being fired in the 700 block of Demaret Drive.
At least one caller also reported a child had been shot. Deputies responded to investigate and were assisted by members of the Columbia Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Upon arrival, responding personnel discovered an adult male and a female child had been shot. Both subjects were seriously injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
"We are limited on what information may be released at this time; however, initial information obtained indicates a disturbance between parties erupted in gunfire," the sheriff's office said in a statement. "It is believed the child, who was simply present, was struck by gunfire and the male who was shot was possibly a participant in the disturbance. We have no reason to believe there are any outstanding suspects and do not believe there to be an ongoing threat to the community," the statement read.
"This is an ongoing investigation, and more information may become available at a later time," the sheriff's office said.
