Two Killed, Five Injured in Gasconade River Boating Accident
Two people were killed and five others injured in a boating accident that occurred Sunday evening on the Gasconade River.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a southbound 2002 Gatorboat, piloted by 30-year-old Reven N. Newbound of Owensville, was on the Gasconade River, upstream from Pointers Creek (southeast of Jeff City) around 7 p.m., when it struck a root wad, causing the vessel to collide with a rock cliff.
Killed in the mishap were the driver, and a seven-year-old girl from Owensville. They were were pronounced deceased at 7:30 p.m., by Osage County Coroner AJ Probst. The bodies were taken to Morton Chapel in Linn, Mo.
Injured were 29-year-old Samantha Newbound with serious injuries. She was flown to University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.
Also injured was 21-year-old Taylor M. McClure from Bland, with minor injuries. She was treated on scene.
Also injured were a nine-year-old girl, a four-year-old girl and an infant boy, all with serious injuries and from Owensville. All three were transported to University of Missouri Hospital.
Conservation Agent K. Stoner assisted the seven Troopers on scene.
The Gatorboat was totaled and partially submerged.
