‘Tools for Success’ Employment Expo in Sedalia on Friday
Area job seekers are encouraged to attend the free "Tools for Success" Employment Expo at the Salvation Army in Sedalia, presented by the Society for Human Resource Management, Sedalia-Pettis County United Way, and Missouri Job Center.
"There will be two sessions on Friday, May 4 from 8 a.m to 11 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m." said Staci Harrison with Sedalia-Pettis County United Way. "These will be identical sessions."
Several issues related to employment will be covered during the expo. "We'll have professionals there to speak to attendees about anything employment related, from childcare and transportation issue, to how to dress for an interview, resume writing, interview tips, how to improve your soft skills once you get hired so that you'll be able to work your way up within that company," said Robin Balke with the Society for Human Resource Management. "We'll have information there about how to skill-up with your current employer, or how to obtain a skill in order to find employment."
There will also be experts in attendance to address subjects such as services available for in-home caregivers who are trying to get back to work, youth at work, and mental health resources.
The Sedalia-Pettis County United Way will also have applications available during the event for this year's Day of Caring event. "We will have team and project applications available," said Harrison. "A lot of folks may not realize the value of volunteering. Volunteer work holds just as much weight as paid employment because it shows the versatility an individual has, and the character of an individual." The Day of Caring is a day where volunteers around the area will come together to help members of the community complete one-day projects, such as maintenance on their homes, hauling away junk, or yard work. "We encourage folks to partake in that day as a volunteer, or as somebody that is providing a volunteer opportunity."
The expo will be free to the public at the Salvation Army at 1200 East Broadway in Sedalia. No pre-registration is required.
