Thomas Rhett’s ‘Marry Me’ Wins 2018 CMA Award for Music Video of the Year
Thomas Rhett has been announced as an early winner in the 2018 CMA Awards. Rhett's video for "Marry Me" won Music Video of the Year early Wednesday morning (Nov. 14).
Rhett's win was announced during the Wednesday morning broadcast of Good Morning America, beating out "Babe" from Sugarland and Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood's "Cry Pretty," "Drunk Girl" from Chris Janson and "Tequila," Dan + Shay. The award for Music Video of the Year goes to both Rhett and director TK McKamy.
Rhett teamed with Jesse Frasure, Ashley Gorley and Shane McAnally to write "Marry Me," which he released as the third single from his third studio album, Life Changes, in November of 2017. The song depicts a man watching the woman he loves marry somebody else. The video mirror the lyrics of the song right up until the very end, when an unexpected plot twist leaves the viewer hoping that love may still find a way.
Kenny Chesney and David Lee Murphy were also announced as early CMA Awards during the broadcast Wednesday morning. They took home Musical Event of the Year for their collaboration on "Everything's Gonna Be Alright."
Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood return to co-host the CMA Awards for the 11th year in a row in 2018. The ceremony airs live on Wednesday night at 8PM ET on ABC. Rhett is also nominated for Male Vocalist and Album of the Year.
