Thomas Rhett's third studio album, Life Changes, will be released on Friday (Sept. 8). The singer admits that the record is a big change for him, both as an artist and as a songwriter, resulting in a lot of mixed emotions leading up to release day.

"Every time you put out a new project, it’s scary -- like, are people going to like it at all, or is it going to flop, or is it going to do great?" Rhett told The Boot and other reporters at a recent media event. "But in the other sense ... This record was not made out of any sort of fear; it was made out of excitement and just sheer ‘I cannot wait to record these songs, because I’m so passionate about these songs.’ In that aspect, it does take a little bit of the pressure away, because I know in my heart that this is the best representation of me, today."

Instead of sitting at home and waiting to see fans' reactions to his new songs via social media, Rhett has big plans for sharing his set of tunes: On Life Changes' release day, Rhett will play three small-club shows in Boston, Mass.; Chicago, Ill.; and Philadelphia, Pa. He's dubbed the whirlwind day's events Live From the B-Stage.

"That comes from, on the Home Team Tour, we have this alternate stage out in the crowd that we go [on to] do 20 or 30 minutes of songs that we haven’t played in forever -- whether it’s songs off the first record, or new songs, or songs that I’ve written for other people. And so that’s always my favorite moment of the sets," Rhett explains. "We kind of wanted to re-live that in three different cities that I felt like gave me my first chance as an artist ... So [I'm] getting to go play in those markets that I felt really built me, getting to play for those fans that have been coming with me since Day One."

Life Changes is available for pre-order on Amazon and iTunes; fans can find a list of all of Rhett's upcoming shows on his website.
