This Lonely Missouri Neighborhood was Abandoned for an Airport

It's not unusual to come across an abandoned house, but it's not common to see an entire neighborhood emptied. That's what happened to residents of one Missouri town who had to leave their homes because of a nearby airport.

Chris Harden shared an interesting drive-thru of what used to be Carrollton with the following backstory about why this area near St. Louis is now devoid of people:

Carrollton was a neighborhood in the suburban city of Bridgeton. This neighborhood sits right next to St. Louis Lambert International Airport, and the city of St. Louis bought out this neighborhood in the 1990's due to a noise ambient program as the airport built a new runway that pointed right in the direction of Carrollton. Today, the neighborhood is completely abandoned and it looks more like a national wildlife refuge than a city neighborhood.

He shared what this area looks like now and describes what it used to be also.

When he mentions the Bridgeton area, he's not kidding about the airport being next door. It's practically on top of what used to be this suburb.

As you can see in the video share by Chris, nature has more or less reclaimed what used to be homes and streets. The authorities were wise to have this area vacated as no one would have wanted a home getting buzzed by 737's every other minute. That would be mind-numbing at best. As it stands now, it's nothing but nature and some streets for what used to be an active part of St. Louis.
