The MO Dept of Conservation is Ready For the Missouri State Fair
A lot of times it's easy to forget what great exhibits the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) provides each year at the Missouri State Fair. This year will be no different!
The MDC has a full line-up of events for kids, young and old! Something the kids will love is the Agents of Discovery. It's a new mobile gaming app that uses augmented reality to help connect people to nature. Who knows after the parents get a look at it the kids may have a hard time getting the phone back!
Friday, August 13 is Missouri Department of Conservation Day. Special demonstrations that day will feature MDC’s new canine unit of specially trained dogs that assist conservation agents with tracking, evidence recovery, search and rescue, wildlife detection, and more.
The MDC will also pay tribute to Missouri’s bicentennial on August 16 and 17. Members of the Muskrat Society will be in period dress to interpret the fur trade of the 1820s-1840s, including a 30-foot half-scale keel boat on display.
On August 14 and 15 you can visit the MDC’s Operation Game Thief trailer. It will be open all day on both dates.
Other free conservation-related programs at MDC’s outdoor pavilion include a live eagle and other birds of prey at the Raptors of Missouri presentation on August 12 and 21.
If you like to hunt mushrooms and you're not sure which ones are edible and which ones are poisonous, check out Mushroom ID. You can learn about Missouri mushrooms at one of two shows on August 19.
You can find out more of what's going on with the MDC at mdc.mo.gov.
