Gotham is going out with a bang with its fifth and final season finale — the kind of bang that comes out of a joke store prop gun. The Joker loves those things! Well, the old comic book Joker did. I don’t know about this guy on Gotham. He looks a little sicker and more deranged.

After years of teasing, we’re finally seeing the Joker on Gotham just in time for the series’ conclusion. For a long time, psychopath Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan) was strongly hinted as the sort of “Joker Begins” of Gotham’s universe. Maybe he was going to become the Joker, or at least inspire the Joker in some way. Then Jerome died and it turned out his twin brother, Jeremiah, wound up becoming the Joker — or at least “J” as he’s called in the teaser above. But c’mon! This is the Joker!

The show’s official synopsis:

GOTHAM is an origin story of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer and writer Bruno Heller and executive producers Danny Cannon and John Stephens, GOTHAM follows the rise of Det. James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) through a dangerously corrupt city teetering between good and evil, and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time. Beginning in Winter 2019, GOTHAM will air its fifth and final season, wrapping up this beloved series in a farewell event that will focus on Bruce Wayne’s (David Mazouz) transformation into the caped crusader.

Gotham’s two-part finale airs on April 18 and 25 on Fox.
