A Texas man was charged with felony DWI after striking a Warsaw teen walking alongside the road in Benton County on Friday morning.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that 22-year-old Cody W. Schach of Edinburg, Texas, was the driver of a southbound 1998 Chevy Blazer on Route MM, south of Pleasant Ridge Drive in Benton County Friday morning just after 8 a.m., when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the road and struck a 14-year-old male pedestrian from Warsaw.

The Blazer continued traveling through the ditch, returned to the roadway, traveled off the right side again, and overturned.

The juvenile suffered serious injuries, and was flown to the University of Missouri's Children's Hospital in Columbia by Life Flight Eagle.

The Chevy had moderate damage, and was towed from the scene.

Schach was later arrested at 8:24 a.m., and charged with felony driving while intoxicated involving serious injury, felony leaving the scene of an accident involving an injury crash, and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway.

Schach was taken into custody and transported to the Benton County Jail, where he was booked and released.

Benton County Deputies assisted the Patrol at the scene.
