Taylor Swift Releases ‘New Year’s Day’ to Country Radio [LISTEN]
Former country music darling Taylor Swift has come back to her musical roots to release her new song "New Year's Day" as a country single. Readers can press play above to watch Swift perform the touching song from her new album, Reputation, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
"New Year's Day" is the last track on Reputation; her performance of the song on The Tonight Show was a last-minute booking. It was a show of support for Fallon, who lost his mother recently. The sentimental love song is a prime example of Swift's trademark emotion-driven songwriting. The low-key piano- and guitar-backed ballad was co-written with Jack Antonoff, and it takes a sharp turn from the rest of the pulsing, R&B-influenced sound of the album, which was released on Nov. 10.
As a country star, Swift released her self-titled first album in 2006; it went on to sell 5 million copies and establish the singer-songwriter as one of the fastest-rising country starts in the business. With her 2014 crossover album 1989, Swift took her country roots into the world of pop music, where she's had no trouble holding her own. "New Year's Day" is Swift's first single to country music radio since 1989 was released.
Swift recently announced an upcoming tour in support of Reputation. "New Year's Day" is available for download now.
