I'm pretty sure this was just a good ole boy meaning no harm, but an original Dukes of Hazzard car just crashed over the weekend in Missouri. No word if Boss Hog was in pursuit.
Amid continued controversy over the Confederate flag, corporations seem to be racing one another to pull down anything and everything associated with the Civil War symbol. The Dukes of Hazzard even had the image taken off merchandise of the iconic General Lee (which kept the name, for … reasons?), and now TVLand has upped the ante by pulling them Duke boys off their lineup altogether.
Prolific character actor James Best, most known for playing the bumbling Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane on The Dukes of Hazzard, has passed away from complications following a battle with pneumonia. He was 88 years old.
The General Lee – Bo and Luke Duke’s vehicle of choice from ‘The Dukes of Hazzard‘ – is a classic and instantly recognizable Hollywood car. But it’s about to get a little less recognizable as Warner Bros., the studio that owns the theatrical, DVD and licensing rights to ‘The Dukes of Hazzard,’ has decided to remove the confederate flag from all future versions of the car.
In the wake of the Charleston, South Carolina shootings, Warner Bros. issued a statement saying, “Warner Bros. Consumer Products has one licensee producing die-cast replicas and vehicle model kits featuring the General Lee with the confederate flag on its roof — as it was seen in the TV series. We have elected to cease the licensing of these product categories.”
