Summer Food Program Kicks off June 2 in Sedalia
The 16th annual Heart of America Summer Food Program will be served at various community sites in Sedalia starting June 2 and meals must be eaten at the site.
There are no income guidelines, fees or registration required, it was noted. However, participants must be 18 or younger, or disabled ages 18-21.
Since there will be no Sedalia 200 July Reading Program this summer, all community sites will be shut down in July and non congregate seven-meal boxes will be handed out to parents and caregivers.
The names of individual 18 and younger must be provided, but they do not need to be present. The program is scheduled to run through August, but will depend on participation.
The group will also be distributing meal boxes at the CACTUS Back to School event in August.
If anyone knows of other agencies outside of Sedalia that may be interested in receiving non congregate meal boxes starting in July, contact Sue Foster, Summer Food Coordinator for Heart of America ReDistribution Solutions & Support.
From June 2 through June 27 (Monday through Friday), free nutritious meals will be given out at:
Centennial Park 11:30 to 12
Liberty Park 11:30 to 12
Vermont Park 11:30 to 12
Hubbard Splash Pad 11 to 11:30
Housel Park 11:20 to 11:50
Katy Park 12:20 to 12:50
New Kingdom Life 11:30 to 12:15 (Mon – Thurs)
And starting July 1, “Grand & Go” meals will be available weekly for distribution at the Celebration Center, 1705 W. 32nd Street, from 11 to 12:30.
Parents and guardians may pick up those meals.
