The college choirs of State Fair Community College and St. Louis Community College-Meramec will be coming together for back-to-back nights of concerts in St. Louis and Sedalia on Friday, October 26 and Saturday, October 27.

Ron Sayer, State Fair Community College Music Arts Coordinator, and Jerry Myers from St. Louis Community College-Meramec decided to bring theirprograms together so their students can "share the positive impact and joy of choral music and the challenge of meeting high expectations." The concerts are titled “Voices and Friends: a Collaborative Concert.”

"We're going to travel there on Friday, October 26, and we're going to share a concert with them, and we're going to conclude that concert doing a couple numbers with both choirs put together," said Sayer. "On Saturday, October 27, they are coming here. So it will be a one time event here in Sedalia, and that will be a free concert, open to the public."

Selections performed cover the expanse of choral music from the Baroque era to the 20th century. Among those selections are the Kyrie from the Missa Brevis by Antonio Lotti, a beautiful setting of the early 20th century poet Alfred Noyes’ Let My Love Be Heard and the American spiritual Cornerstone.

"Their choir is outstanding, as is our choir. I think it's going to be a fantastic performance," said Sayer. "We've never done this before. I'm really excited. I think it's going to be really interesting for the students."

Doors will open at the Stauffacher Theatre in Sedalia at 6:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. concert on October 27.
