The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners (20-26) saw their season come to an end on Friday, May 7 with a pair of heartbreaking losses 13-12 in game one and 7-6 in game two in the Sub Regional series in Hillsboro.

In game one, the SFCC comeback attempt fell just short, as the Roadrunners scored five runs in the top of the eighth inning. SFCC could not tie the game in the top of the ninth inning.

Freshman infielder Austin Warkins of Haysville, Kansas led the offensive for SFCC. Warkins had three hits (including two home runs), five RBI and three runs. Redshirt sophomore outfielder Tommy Ruether of Washington also had a pair of hits (including a double), two runs, and a run batted in. Freshman infielder/outfielder Jacob McWhirter of Guelph, Ontario also had a pair of hits (including a double), and one run. Sophomore catcher Dylan Thompson of Camdenton had a double and three runs batted in.

Freshman outfielder Drake Miller of Camdenton had a double and two runs scored. Freshman infielder Brandon Stahlman of Washington drove in a run, drew a pair of walks, and scored twice. Freshman catcher/pitcher Zachary Dillman of Lee’s Summit scored a run and drove in another. Redshirt sophomore infielder Clayton Meyer of Sedalia drove in one run.

Freshman pitcher Roy Holcomb of St. Joseph got the start for the Roadrunners and gave up eight runs (six earned) in four innings. Holcomb walked eight and struck out three in the loss.

In game two, Jefferson used a three-run rally in the top of the ninth inning to erase a two-run deficit. SFCC, playing as the home team, could not answer in the bottom of the inning.

Dillman had two hits and a run batted in. Thompson also had a pair of hits (including a double). Meyer also had two hits, a run batted in, and a run scored. Ruether had a double and a run batted in. Warkins had a pair of RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Antonio Escano of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic got the start for SFCC and surrendered four runs (three earned) on five hits and struck out six in six innings. Sophomore pitcher Peyton Seiz of Holden pitched three innings in relief, gave up three runs on four hits, struck out two, and walked two to earn the loss.
