On Feb. 22, officials from Central Methodist University and State Fair Community College signed a new agreement that gives students an easy path to a Master of Science in Athletic Training when they begin at SFCC.

The signing ceremony was held on SFCC’s Sedalia campus and originally scheduled for Feb. 4 but was rescheduled because of inclement weather.

The new transfer program between the two colleges allows SFCC students to transfer into CMU seamlessly and potentially complete the MSAT in five years. Students who complete general education and additional physical education courses at SFCC will be able to transfer to CMU where they will take the required courses and then apply for the master’s degree program for a career in athletic training.

“We’re excited about the agreement,” said Dr. Wade Welton, CMU’s Athletic Training program director, in a recent press release. “I think it can open up doors for students and that’s the most important thing. The biggest advantage with this is that students can seamlessly transfer from State Fair to here with a plan. If they can stay on track, it’s a quality program and cost effective.”

Darren Pannier, SFCC’s Athletic director and CMU alum, was involved with developing the agreement between the colleges. He also commented on the positive outcome for students.

“I do believe it’ll be a huge factor and a win-win situation for both parties,” Pannier said. “It’s been a long time coming, and I’m just glad it’s happening before I retire.”
