State Fair Community College and Central Methodist University are teaming up to host an 'Eating Disorder Awareness Walk' next month in Sedalia.

The awareness walk will take place on Saturday, May 6th, on the walking path at State Fair Community College.

According to a press release from CMU and SFCC, the walk is open to everyone.

Registration is $10 per person and can be completed online at eventbrite.com.

“From my understanding, there is only one mental health professional who specializes in eating disorders in Sedalia and surrounding communities,” said the event’s coordinator Dr. Angela Schubert of CMU.

Schubert went on to say that the local walk hopes to encourage community members to increase social awareness and to support families suffering silently in our community.

Registration for the walk will take place from 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. A community yoga session is also planned from 8:30 - 9:00 a.m. There will be presentations from speakers at 9:00 a.m. The 'Eating Disorder Awareness Walk' will begin at 10 a.m. and is scheduled to end at noon.

100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Missouri Eating Disorder Association. For more information, or to donate, call 660-596-7156.

The event is supported by the Missouri Eating Disorder Association (MO-EDA).
