SFCC 2019 Distinguished Alumni Celso Doria to Deliver Commencement Address
Celso Doria, Morgan Stanley Managing director, has been selected as the State Fair Community College 2019 Distinguished Alumni and will give the keynote address at commencement at 7 p.m. May 17 in the Mathewson Exhibition Center on the Missouri State Fairgrounds.
Doria graduated from SFCC in 1992 with an Associate of Arts degree. In 1994, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. While at SFCC and Emporia State, Doria played basketball. Prior to attending SFCC, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Economical Sciences from the Universidad Mackenzie in São Paulo, Brazil.
In his current position with Morgan Stanley, Doria is head of technology for The Americas Institutional Branch offices as well as for the Mexico and São Paulo offices. He joined Morgan Stanley as an associate to support the São Paulo office in 1998.
Previously, Doria worked for PepsiCo starting in Wichita, Kansas, at Pizza Hut International before moving to Dallas, Texas, where he served in several technology roles.
Outside his Morgan Stanley responsibilities, Doria is president of Club Athletico Paulistano Fiscal Council and has served as president of the Technology Committee for the Association of International Banks in Brazil and as a United Way Brazil board member.
Doria resides in São Paulo with wife Marcelle, whom he met and married in Sedalia, and has three adult children. The oldest, Alex, is a professional basketball player in Brazil; Lucas is a senior at St. Edwards University in Texas, and Juliana is a freshman at PUC University in Brazil.
As well as being honored as the Distinguished Alumni, Doria also will deliver the commencement address. This year approximately 645 graduates will receive just under 728 degrees at the college’s 50th commencement ceremony. Breakdown of degrees (as of May 2) included 410 Associate of Arts degrees, 5 Associate of Fine Arts, 38 Associate of Arts in Teaching degrees, 4 Associate of Science degrees, 179 Associate of Applied Science degrees, 67 Professional Certificates, and 25 Skills Certificates.
The numbers include students who attend SFCC on the Sedalia campus and at locations in Boonville, Clinton, Eldon, Lake of the Ozarks, Whiteman Air Force Base, and online. More than 200 students plan to walk in the ceremony.
A commencement and pinning ceremony for Health Sciences graduates will be held at 2 p.m. May 17 in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on the Sedalia campus. Jamie Ross, BSRT (R), director of Radiology at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, will give the commencement address.
A total of 161 Health Science students are expected to receive degrees or certificates in these programs: Associate Degree Nursing, 54; Practical Nursing, 66; Medical Assisting, 8; Dental Hygiene, 10; Diagnostic Medical Sonography, 10; and Radiologic Technology, 13.
SFCC’s Adult Education and Literacy graduation will be held at 11 a.m. May 18 in the Davis Center. Participants who have passed the High School Equivalency exam or who have earned their United States citizenship will be recognized.
Commencement will be held at 2 p.m. June 4 for students who attended classes on SFCC’s Whiteman Air Force Base campus in Knob Noster. Brian Bode, Park University chief financial officer, will address the graduates.
