Here's a look at some of the events going on this weekend. 

Camp Blue Sky is excited to announce Milton Gray and Vanessa and Rodney Gibbs as our guest artists for Jambo African Arts Adventure. 

Milton Gray’s performance of African culture and storytelling will teach the importance of oral communication in traditional African life. His focus will be on the storytelling tradition of the Ashanti People of West Africa, home of Anansi the Spider. The Gibbs will teach students concepts and techniques of West African dance from Mali to Senegal.  2014 Camp dates: July 28 – August 1.   Please join us for an enriching week of African art, dance and storytelling.  For questions, call Barbara at 826-6292.

The Lake Creek Camp Meeting will be held July 27 – August 3. 

Sunday morning services are at 9 a.m., evening service is at 7:30 p.m.  VBS will be held each morning from 9:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.  All ages are welcome.    Go 6 miles south of Smithton on Hwy W to Lake Creek Road.  For more information, contact 660-826-9441.

State Fair Community College’s The Learning Force will offer a comprehensive four-day mammography workshop July 30 to Aug. 2 in the Heckart Science and Allied Health Center Thompson Conference Center on the SFCC Sedalia campus.

The workshop covers all aspects of training for experienced mammographers and radiologic technologists interested in crossing over into mammography. The Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) mandated eight-hour Digital Mammography Course is included.  Participants may attend one, two, three, or all four days. Reduced cost for 2014 is $25 per day or $75 for all four days for eligible students due to tuition funding from a MoHealthWINS* grant. The 28th annual Les Webb Memorial Breakfast will be August 2nd. 

The event will take place at the Sedalia Shrine Club, 1375 Elm Hills Blvd from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  They’ll have steak, eggs, biscuits and gravy, coffee, milk, juice, and bloody marys for a cost of $10.  To go orders for breakfast only are available at 660-620-2939 or 660-826-6171.

The Cancer Benefit Fundraiser for Phyllis Lynn will be on Saturday, August 2.

It’ll be held at the Concordia Community Center, 802 South Gordon Street, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  They’ll have live music, a roast hog dinner, baked beans, brisket, potato salad, homemade desserts and door prizes with a silent and live auction.  Anonymous donations can be made to the Benefit account at State Bank of Missouri, 101 NW 2nd St, Concordia.
