Sedalia Symphony Welcomes MU Singers to Heckart Performing Arts Center
The Sedalia Symphony Orchestra will host its winter concert on Monday, February 25 at the Smith-Cotton High School Heckart Performing Arts Center.
"It is our first concert of 2019, and the second concert of our 84th consecutive season," said Byron Matson with the Sedalia Symphony Society. The Orchestra, joined on some selections by members of the Smith-Cotton High School Orchestra, will open the concert. Guest artists for the evening will be the MU Singers composed of seven students and four MU School of Music Voice faculty members led by Dr. Steven Jepson.
"It's going to be just a really wonderful program. They're (the MU Singers) going to sing standards. Old, wonderful, lovely standards. These were popular hits from the great shows," said Matson. "It's just going to be a lovely program of music. A bit of classical, a bit of light classical, and these popular ballads that date all the way from 1917 to 1944."
Ticket are $10 and will be available at the door. Students and children are free. A reception will follow the concert in the lobby. The Symphony will serve cookies, punch and coffee.
"It's our Winter Concert, it's a great, great evening," said Matson. "To hear these songs acoustically, in the house, with the visuals of the people singing and playing, it's a wonderful treat."
