This article is compiled from the Sedalia Police Department crime reports.


 

Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of South Kentucky Avenue in reference to a domestic incident on Saturday night. Officers arrived and made contact with the victim. The victim had obvious injuries and signs of being assaulted. The victim was transported by air ambulance to the University of Missouri in Columbia.


 

Monday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to a burglary. Officers arrived and made contact with Kathy Kelley. Kelley stated someone had forced entry into the garage overnight. In addition, a dark purple Giant mountain bike had been stolen, valued at $600. Damage was also reported to a window, valued at $300.


 

Sunday evening, Officers responded to the 1800 block of South Kentucky Avenue in reference to a disturbance with a weapon. The victim stated a female pulled a knife on them. Stephanie McDonald, 31, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Armed Criminal Action, and Domestic Assault in the 4th Degree.


 

Friday morning, a call came from the 900 block of South Barrett Avenue regarding a past theft that occurred. Upon arrival, information was gathered from Gavin Wolf, and a report was made.


 

Saturday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of East 6th Street in reference to harassment. Officers spoke with a subject at the residence who reported that she was being harassed by a person known to her.


 

Sunday night, Officers were dispatched to McAnally Court for a report of a domestic disturbance. During the investigation, it was determined an assault had taken place. Addison Jacob Selvey, 26, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Domestic Assault in the 3rd Degree. Selvey was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold.


 

Sedalia Police were contacted by Chris Stultz to report items had been stolen out of his truck. The items were stolen when his truck was at the Encounter Church, 1201 North William Parkhurst Drive. Information was gathered for a report and a possible suspect has been identified.


 

On the evening of August 23rd, Officers responded to the 3900 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a theft report. Upon arrival, Officers gathered information from Agnieszka Maria Lucassen Baker, and a report was completed.

Sunday night, Officers attempted a traffic stop on a white Jeep Liberty with an expired Missouri license plate. The incident began in the area of West Broadway Boulevard and South Carr Avenue. The vehicle failed to stop and fled from the Officer. The vehicle continued to flee westbound without stopping. The vehicle fled further into Johnson County. The vehicle was spiked by Johnson County Deputies. The vehicle came to a stop and the driver was arrested without further incident. The driver had felony warrants for Unlawful Use of a Weapon, two counts of Tampering With A Motor Vehicle in the First Degree, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, felony Possession of a controlled Substance, Domestic Assault in the 3rd Degree, and a no bond Probation Violation warrant. The suspect was armed and in possession of a controlled substance. Additional charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Driving While Revoked, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and felony Resisting Arrest were also filed.

AUTHOR’S NOTE: The arrestee was not named in the report, and there was no stated reason given why the suspect was unidentified.

Sunday morning, Officers conducted a warrant check at the Phillips 66*, 216 West Broadway Boulevard. Officers made contact with Jeremy Grant Casteel, 46, Homeless, and checked his information with dispatch. He was found to have an active felony arrant from DeKalb County. The warrant was issued in July, after an initial incident that occurred in April 2024. In that incident, the probable cause statement notes Casteel was involved in a motor vehicle crash on US 36 highway in DeKalb County, Missouri. He traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck an embankment and road sign before going airborne. Casteel was not wearing a seatbelt during the crash and was seriously injured. Casteel was the only occupant of his vehicle, and the only vehicle involved in the crash. During the investigation of the crash, Officers observed a clear baggie containing two smaller baggies filled with a white crystal substance laying in plain view on the passenger seat of Casteel's vehicle. The crystal substance was seized as evidence and forwarded to the Missouri State Highway Patrol laboratory for identification. The substance was later identified as methamphetamine. Casteel was transported to the Pettis County Jail where he was booked in with a bond of $50,000 cash only for his warrant on charges of felony Possession of a Controlled Substance.


 

Officers received a call from the Menards’ store, 4400 Wisconsin Avenue, regarding a past theft from the business Saturday morning. Upon arrival, information was gathered for a report. The suspect has not been located at this time.


 

Saturday morning, Officers conducted a warrant check in the 1000 block of East 16th Street. A subject was arrested for an active warrant, which was issued on August 14th of 2024 after an incident the day before. In that incident, a victim had called the Police to advise her neighbor told her that someone was breaking into her home. When Officers arrived, they spoke with the subject, who was standing by a dog kennel int eh backyard, holding multiple tools in her hands. The subject stated she did not know the homeowner, but knew the homeowner’s son. She could not recall the son’s name. She stated the son had told her to come to the house and take the chicken wire off the dog kennel to use at her residence. The homeowner stated she did not give permission to be on or in her property, and wanted the house cleared. The homeowner clarified that she has a step-son, who is not welcome at the residence. Kathryn E. Staats, 56, of Sedalia, was arrested for her warrant on charges of felony Burglary in the 2nd Degree. Bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety.


 

Sunday afternoon, Officers took a report of a missing wallet from David Schick. The wallet went missing at Perkin’s, 1100 South Limit Avenue. At this time, it is unclear if the wallet was stolen or lost.


 

Saturday evening, Officers met with Karl Derstein about a stolen vehicle. Derstein stated that a known subject has the vehicle and refused to return it. Charges of stealing of a vehicle are being submitted to the Prosecutor.


 

Sunday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of South Beacon Avenue in regards to a theft report. Jerry McNeely stated that between midnight and that morning, someone had broken into their garage and stolen multiple items.


 

Officers were dispatched to the area of South Moniteau Avenue and West 6th Street for reports of an assault in progress Sunday morning. When speaking to the subjects on scene, it was revealed a male suspect had a warrant for his arrest. Tyler G. Cummings, 23, of Sedalia, was arrested for his Failure to Appear warrant on original charges of Bicycle Violations and Failure to Obey a Lawful Order. Cummings was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked and released.


 

Sunday morning, Officers responded to reports of a male suspect attacking a female subject. Upon arrival, the subjects were located and the intoxicated male was arrested. Santiago Cano Lorenzo, 37, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of felony Domestic Assault in the 3rd Degree.


 

Saturday night, Officers made contact with a female subject outside of the Holiday Inn, 4001 West Broadway Boulevard, who stated she had been assaulted. Officers responded to the Deer Brook Villas, in the 900 block of Lamm Drive. Robert Dennis Sutton, 64, of Jamesport, Missouri, was arrested on a charge of felony Domestic Assault in the 3rd Degree. Sutton was placed on a 24 hour hold at the Pettis County Jail.


 

On the evening of August 23rd, Officers spoke with the Asset Protection staff at the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard. They advised a male subject had concealed items and left the store without paying for them on August 22nd. The suspect was located at the Cenex store, 120 East 16th Street. Bennett Tyler Neely, 25, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Shoplifting. Neely was booked and released at the Pettis County Jail.


Saturday evening, Officers responded to the Bandanna’s restaurant, 2909 West Broadway Boulevard, for a report of a subject attempting to enter vehicles. The subject was located at the Simmons Bank, 818 Thompson Boulevard. Jared Ward Sanders, 43, Homeless, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail. There, Sanders was placed on a 12-hour protective custody hold.


 

Friday afternoon, Officers responded to the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard regarding a shoplifter they had in the Asset Protection Office. Upon arrival, information was gathered for a report. Michael Joseph Randone, 50, of La Monte, was arrested on a charge of Shoplifting. Randone was released on scene with a city summons.


 

Saturday morning, a report was taken regarding found property. Contact with the owner of the property was attempted, but unsuccessful. The property was found in the area of West 3rd Street and South Carr Avenue, and was placed into the evidence room for safe keeping.


Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 300 block of West 4th Street in reference to a theft report. Michelle A. Egner stated that sometime in the overnight hours, someone stole $40 worth of towels off their front porch.


 

Saturday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 900 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to found property. A blue mountain bike was located in the area. The bicycle was transported to the Police Headquarters and placed in the bike shed.


 

Saturday morning, Officers responded to the Casey’s store, 716 West 16th Street, for a report of assault. The suspects fled the scene from Officers, were tracked to a nearby residence in the 1700 block of South Prospect. Rolando Blas Alejo, 19, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of felony Domestic Assault in the 3rd Degree, Resisting Arrest, and Trespassing in the 2nd Degree.


 

Saturday morning, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was driving with no headlights near East Broadway Boulevard and South Marvin Avenue. The driver was found to have no valid license. Bryan Rubio Alejo, 21, of Sedalia, was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway Without a Valid License. The passenger was found to have an active warrant out of Pettis County. Jairo Jose Funez, 21, of Sedalia, was arrested for his Failure to Appear warrant on original charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway Without a Valid License (2nd Offense). Bond was set at $300 cash only. Both Alejo and Funez were transported to the Pettis County Jail.


 

Friday night, Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of East 10th Street for a domestic disturbance. Contact was made with the male subject, and he was arrested. Juvintino Brenden Martinez, 34, of Sedalia, was arrested for a charge of Domestic Assault in the 4th Degree. Martinez was placed on a 24 hour hold at the Pettis County Jail.


 

Friday night, Officers went to the 1000 block of East 10th Street to locate a subject with a warrant for their arrest. While at the residence, Officers were informed a subject involved with the person with the warrant had been trespassing on the property. A summons was issued for that subject.


 

Sedalia Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 300 block of East Saline Street Friday evening. On arrival, parties involved reported that one subject had pushed another one earlier in the day. Erika L. Hill, 53, was issued a city summons for Assault.


 

Officers responded to the 2700 block of Station Avenue for a report o fa disturbance Friday evening. Upon arrival, all the subjects had calmed down and were separated. After some investigation, one subject was found to have stolen money from another. Bryce Elliott Steele, 25, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Stealing. Steele was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked and released.


 

On the afternoon of August 20th, Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of West Cooper Street in reference to multiple 911 calls. It was reported a subject was being strangled inside. The residents were uncooperative. Due to the exigent circumstances, Officers began forcing entry into the home. Eventually the residents cooperated to verify the safety of everyone inside.


 

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 1200 block of South Park Avenue in reference to a theft report on the afternoon of August 20th. Christopher Newton stated in the overnight house, someone stole his wallet and change out of his vehicle.


 

On the evening of August 20th, Shanna Miller reported a gun was stolen out of her storage unit at the KO Storage, 1526 West Main Street.


 

Friday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the lobby of the Police Department in reference to a warrant check. The subject was shown to have an active warrant from the City of Sedalia for Failure to Appear on an original charge of Animal Running at Large. Jessica L. Smith, 39, of Sedalia, was arrested for her warrant and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where she was issued a $60 cash only bond.


 

Friday morning, Officers were dispatched to the St Paul’s Lutheran School, 701 South Massachusetts Avenue for a report of found property. Jill Robinson reported a bicycle had been abandoned on the property. Officers recovered the bicycle and placed it into evidence at the Sedalia Police Department.
