Emma Schouten came to the ballpark and meant business on Thursday, driving in seven on three hits to lead Sacred Heart past Green Ridge 12-1 on Thursday.

Schouten drove in runs on two doubles early in the game and a grand slam in the fifth inning.

Sacred Heart secured the victory, thanks to eight runs in the first inning. The Lady Gremlin batters contributing to the big inning included Karen Cisneros, Maria Mergen, Emily McDonald, Zoe Martin, and Schouten, all driving in runs in the inning.

Schouten earned the win for Sacred Heart. The righty lasted five innings, allowing one hit and one run, while striking out 11 and walking zero.

The Lady Gremlins racked up 14 hits in the game. Schouten, Keely Elwell, McDonald, Claire Smeltzer, and Veronica Vanegas each collected multiple hits for Sacred Heart. Elwell and Schouten each managed three hits to lead Sacred Heart SH Varsity Softball.

Sacred Heart Softball is now 2-3 (2-1 in conference play). Their next action is Friday, April 16 at 4 p.m. vs. Otterville, to begin the Kaysinger Conference Tournament.

Green Ridge is now 5-4.

The Lady Gremlins travel to Lone Jack (2-5) Monday. They play Cole Camp at home Tuesday.


Sacred Heart Gremlins Softball JV Overcomes Green Ridge In Face Of Early 4-Run Inning

Despite allowing four runs in the third inning, the Sacred Heart JV defeated Green Ridge 9-4 on Thursday. Sacred Heart notched five runs in the third inning. The rally was led by a walk by Karen Cisneros, a single by Olivia Dobson, and a double by Hayden Altena.

Zoe Martin was the winning pitcher for Sacred Heart. The fireballer went two innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out five and walking one. Keely Elwell threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Kiley Beykirch, Dobson, Martin, and Altena all had one hit to lead the Gremlins. Sacred Heart tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Altena led the way with two. Sacred Heart Gremlin Softball 2021 JV didn't commit a single error in the field. Sammy Altena had seven chances in the field, the most on the team.

The SH Junior Varsity is now 4-0 on the season.
