Sacred Heart Varsity lost to Class 4 Hickman (with Columbia Independent) in four sets Monday night,  25-15, 18-25, 24-26, and 16-25.

“Of course the girls are disappointed with the loss, but I am proud of their fight and never-give-up mentality.  Hickman rostered all Juniors and Seniors, five that were 5’9” or taller and a middle that was 6’4”.  Our average height is, well, nothing close to that,” commented coach Marlo Siron Boots.

“We gave Hickman a good fight and I’m proud.  We will celebrate that our 5’3 right side hitter Senior Hayden Altena had a solo kill block, 4 kills, and 4 aces.  Senior Maria Mergen had 4 kills, 10 digs and 2 aces.  And, once again Junior Kiley Beykirch had 6 kills and led in assists feeding the ball to Sophomore Emma Siron who lead the night with 11 kills,” coach Siron said.

This brings the Varsity record to 4-1 for the season.  The JH, JV and Varsity play Sept. 15 at home vs Otterville, with games beginning at 5:30 pm.

In between games the Sacred Heart Volleyball team honored their “Biggest FANS” who really missed Gremlin sports when COVID hit last March.  When school began this Fall, Science teacher Mrs. Hagebusch began asking the girls when and where they played.  In fact she even came to a summer volleyball scrimmage at St. Paul’s Lutheran in Concordia.  The volleyball team wanted to give the Hagebuschs their very own bleacher seat as a reminder that they appreciate them and are glad to have them as their #1 fans.

JH will play in the Hoying gym and JV will play in the McGremlin Gym beginning at 5:30 pm, followed by Varsity action in the "McGremlin Gym."
