Sedalia School District 200 sent a letter on Tuesday, July 7 to families and staff to let them know that a member of the Smith-Cotton High School football program was confirmed with the coronavirus:
“A confirmed case of COVID-19 has been documented with the Smith-Cotton High School football program. To remain transparent with our community, we are sharing this information with all district families.

Team members and coaches at practices last week were at low-risk exposure to the virus; as a precaution, we are suspending all football team activities through July 15. While the mandated social distancing practices our programs are enforcing are helpful in reducing risk, team members and coaches are advised to monitor for CDC-defined symptoms of COVID-19, including:

 Fever or chills
 Cough
 Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
 Fatigue
 Muscle or body aches
 Congestion or runny nose
 Headache
 Sore throat
 Newly emerged loss of taste or smell
 Nausea or vomiting
 Diarrhea

If symptoms develop, you are advised to stay home and consult with your health care provider.

The high school weight room and football locker room are closed through July 15 and each will undergo thorough disinfection as a precaution.

The health and safety of our students, district families and staff members always will be our primary priority. We remain in contact with the Pettis County Health Center to ensure we are following the best protocols to provide a healthy environment for all.”

Bob Satnan, communications director for Sedalia School District 200, said "We will have no further comment. Thank you."

The Pettis County Health Center on Tuesday afternoon reported four new positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number in Pettis County to 138. A total of 23 of those are active. One is currently hospitalized. There has been one death reported from COVID-19 in Pettis County.
