Royals Moore To Be Inducted into Mo Sports Hall of Fame
Kansas City Royals Sr. Vice President - Baseball Operations / General Manager Dayton Moore is one of 20 sports figures / teams that will be inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame later this month.
Moore, whose led the Royals for the past 14 years, has overseen one of the most decorated eras in franchise history according to a team release. Under his tenure the Royals have boasted 19 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards, two Platinum Glove Awards, 29 All-Star Game Selections, six Silver Sluggers and a Cy Young Award Winner.
Additionally the team won back to back pennants in 2014 and 2015 and the World Series in 2015.
In addition to his work with the team, Moore has given back to the Kansas City community. In 2013 he established the "C" You In the Major Leagues Foundation which supports youth baseball, education, families in crisis and faith-based programs and organizations.
Under his direction the Kansas City Urban Youth Academy opened in 2017. While serving as a model for youth baseball and softball development, the $21 million dollar facility develops character and provides advancement for Kansas City's urban youth.
Other notable inductees from our area include former Chiefs linebacker Derrick Thomas, former Cardinals President Mark Lamping, University of Missouri Football Chain Crew, Tom Mast, Warrensburg High School boys & girl cross country programs and coach Ron Clawson, and University of Missouri Soccer Coach Bryan Blitz.
The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony is set for Sunday January 31 at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds.
According to their website, The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame "celebrates the accomplishments made by athletes of our past, while inspiring future athletes to succeed. All of our inductees have helped mold Missouri sports to what it is today."
