On Tuesday, an AMBER Alert was issued in Cooper County after an unconfirmed sighting of two individuals matching the description of missing 9-year-old Carlie Trent and her alleged abductor, Gary Simpson.

Simpson is accused of kidnapping the girl last week in Rogersville, Tennessee. A felony warrant for kidnapping has been issued for Simpson.

According to the Cooper County Sheriff's Department, law enforcement received a tip that two individuals matching the descriptions of Trent and Simpson were spotted on May 9 travelling in a canoe on the Lamine River near Otterville. A photograph of the individuals was released, in an attempt to confirm their identities. KMBC reports that the two individuals in the canoe were contacted and it was determined that they were not Trent and Simpson.

An AMBER Alert was issued on May 10 around 3 p.m. and an extensive search commenced in Cooper County. Just before 5 p.m., the Cooper County Emergency Management Agency issued an update that read: "As a result of the search contact was made with area residents who reported seeing a van matching the description of the Amber Alert van. Further investigation revealed the van was not the van described in the initial TN Amber Alert."

The investigation into the disappearance of Carlie Trent continues.
