Police Peacefully End Standoff With Barricaded Man in Columbia
Columbia Police Department's Crisis Negotiation Team successfully diffused a situation with a man who had barricaded himself in his home and started firing shots. The situation occurred at Oak Towers on North Garth Avenue this morning, March 1, 2022.
A little bit after 5:30 AM CST Columbia Police responded to a report of a verbal altercation at a residence inside Oak Towers, at 700 N. Garth Avenue in Columbia. This is according to a Columbia Police Department press release.
Officers found an adult male barricaded inside his residence, and officers confirmed the subject had fired shots and continued to do so throughout the incident. Out of caution, Columbia Police dispatched SWAT and the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) to the scene.
A negotiator with Columbia Police's CNT established communication with the subject, which lead to him being taken into custody. The subject was taken to a local health facility for evaluation. And the subject will be arrested for armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, felon in possession of a weapon, and possession of a controlled substance.
