On Jan. 19, Pettis County Deputies initiated a vehicle stop on US Highway 50 near Highway 127 in La Monte, for excessive speed and no headlight.

The driver then fled on the motorcycle from deputies, eastbound on 50, reaching speeds in excess of 130 miles per hour. The motorcycle then turned around and traveled westbound in the eastbound lanes, before exiting the motorcycle in La Monte and fleeing from deputies on foot.

The driver, identified as Brandon Westpheling of Otterville, was restrained by a citizen until deputies arrived and took Westpheling into custody.

Westpheling was transported to the Pettis County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold for resisting arrest, driving while suspended, careless and imprudent driving and other traffic violations.

Westpheling, 24, was previously arrested by the Missouri State Highway Patrol at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 11 in Pettis County. He was charged with driving while suspended, no proof of insurance and failure to register a motor vehicle.

He was also wanted on a felony Audrain County warrant, two misdemeanor Pettis County warrants and a misdemeanor Morgan County warrant. Westpheling was taken to the Pettis County Jail.
