UPDATE: The main building at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg was cleared about 2 ½ hours after reports surfaced about a man armed with a gun entered the facility.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene at 403 Burkrath Road and began clearing and evacuating the building.

No shots were fired at any time.
The suspect was detained and arrested a significant distance from the hospital, according to Sgt. Bill Lowe with the MSHP. He was taken to the Johnson County Jail.

“All in all It worked like it's supposed to,” Lowe told reporters gathered outside the hospital for a press briefing.

“It's just unfortunate that the alarming nature of this wasn't needed. There wasn't anybody on the premises or anywhere near the premises with a gun,” Lowe said.

No one was hurt at the hospital.


There were reports of a man armed with a gun at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg.

The man has not yet been identified or located, according to a tweet from Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop A.

No shots have been fired.

Police are clearing the building, it was reported.

First responders are on the scene now.

Western Missouri Medical Center is referring to the incident as a "violent intruder." There is reportedly a lock-down in progress at the hospital. Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene.

"Police on site, and staff and patients being evacuated now.* This is not a drill. Active shooter at Western Missouri Medical Center main hospital building, WMMC posted.

According to Johnson County EMA:

 Emergency Responders are on scene working an active incident at Western Missouri Medical Center. We ask that the public stay clear of the location. We will advice when the situation is under control.

The hospital is located at 403 Burkrath Road in Warrensburg.

According to Sgt. Bill Lowe, it was about 2 1/2 hours before the all-clear for the building was given.

The FBI was also on scene, in addition to local law enforcement agencies, Lowe said during a press conference at the scene.

"We're a team when something like this happens," he stated.

Lowe said there was a threat to the hospital but wasn't sure how it came in.
