A Richmond Heights man died after an explosion aboard a boat at the Lake of the Ozarks on Saturday afternoon.

53-year-old Shawn E. Carroll of Richmond Heights was killed when the engines on a 1999 Sea Ray were restarted after refueling and an explosion occurred around 3:40 p.m. May 2 at the one-mile marker of the Grand Glaize arm of the lake at Bridgeview Marina in Camden County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Three other people were injured in the fire, including 47-year-old Benjamin L. Dodd and 37-year-old Lauren J. Wilken, both of St. Louis, and 52-year-old Brent J. Soloman (driver of the boat) of Osage Beach. All three were taken to Lake Regional Hospital for treatment.

Carroll was pronounced dead at 3:43 p.m. by medical examiner Jason Funk. The body was taken to Hedges-Scott Funeral Home.

Osage Beach Fire and EMS assisted the Patrol at the scene, as well as Mid-Mo Fire and the MSHP's dive team. A total of five Troopers were at the scene.
