Well, this is interesting. 85 Sonic locations were just purchased and none of them were in Missouri. However, Missouri is definitely a factor as the company behind the acquisition is quite literally right on the Missouri state line.

I saw Restaurant Dive share the news of this big franchise purchase of Sonic places and I also confirmed it via Sonic's corporate website. Yahoo News is reporting that the 85 Sonic locations are located in Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

The company is KPB Brands which is located at 11141 Overbrook Rd in Leawood, Kansas which is next to State Line Road which is named that for a reason. Notice that Missouri is right across the street. You can see it right outside of their office windows.

Nation's Restaurant News says this means KPB Brands now has more than 1,000 restaurants. Impressive. They say 3 years ago, KBP Brands bought 100 Arby's.

I'm certainly no fast food expert and have no clue what possible implications this might have for Missouri, but I do find it interesting that a company with Missouri right outside of its windows has acquired so many fast food brands over the past few years. It would appear that a restaurant empire is growing right along the Missouri state border.
