Matt Wirt Recognized for 25 Years of Service
Interim City Administrator Matt Wirt was recognized for 25 years of service to the City of Sedalia Monday during a City Council meeting.
Sedalia Police Chief David Woolery gave a presentation that honored Wirt, noting that Wirt began his employment with the City on Feb. 20, 1999 as a reserve police officer.
On Oct. 31, 1999, Wirt transitioned to a full-time police officer, working afternoons and overnights for about six years, before being promoted to sergeant on July 3, 2005.
As sergeant, Wirt commanded a patrol shift until moving to investigations in February of 2009.
Wirt worked as a detective/sergeant for two years until achieving the position of commander. As commander, he ran the patrol bureau, criminal investigations bureau and administrative support bureau before being promoted to chief of police on April 27, 2018.
“I had the opportunity to work with you for five years as you were the chief of police. During that time, I saw you lead by example, with work ethics, determination and vision. You had a vision of professionalism, transparency and community. These are ideals we still hold close to our heart at the police department.
“On Dec. 11, 2023, you resigned as the chief of police and started as the assistant city administrator. Over the last year, I watched you introduce your determination and vision to several City departments, moving us to new levels of professionalism and efficiency.
“Congratulations on 25 years of service to your community. Thank you for your commitment that you have provided to Sedalia on all levels. I’m proud to have shared this journey with you, and have the opportunity to present you with a pin tonight.
“Twenty-five years ago, you started as a reserve officer, and have worked all the way up to reserve officer once again,” Commented Chief Woolery.
