‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Trailer: This Post-Apocalyptic Chase Movie Looks Like a Gas
When ScreenCrush published its list of the best movie trailers of 2014, the staff consensus on the number one choice was immediate: The teaser for ‘Mad Max: Fury Road.’ Now there’s a full trailer for the film and ... it’s even better than the first one. Is it too late to have two ‘Mad Max’ clips on one list?
Even though this is a sequel (the third to date by director George Miller based on his 1979 movie about Aussie cop Max Rockatansky), it looks totally new and original. And everything (except that big, crazy storm at the end) looks like it was done practically, which means either the CGI in ‘Fury Road’ is some of the best in history, or Miller and his crew staged the craziest practical car chases ever, like ‘Wacky Races’ crossed with ‘Fast and Furious’ with a dash of ‘The Road’ thrown in. If this trailer doesn’t make you want to see this movie immediately, I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion.
Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa. They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.
‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ opens in theaters on May 15, 2015. Even if it’s an absolute disaster (something that seems increasingly unlikely at this point), this trailer will always be a masterpiece.
