It was a standing-room-only crowd at the League of Women Voters' Candidate Forum held at the Municipal Building Wednesday night.

A total of nine candidates for local office appeared at the forum, which lasted around an hour, 45 minutes.

Candidates for the State Fair Community College Board of Trustees (Cynthia Gray, Jim Page and Patty Wood), as well as candidates for Sedalia mayor (Stephen J. Galliher, John Kehde and Kevin Walker) and candidates for Sedalia District 200 School Board (Matthew Herren, Dr. Jeffrey Sharp and Richard Thomas) presented opening statements, answered written questions from the audience and made their case for eligibility and qualifications in their race for public office.

LWV forum co-chair Mary Merritt moderated the event. She noted that the League of Women Voters is a non-partisan organization and does not promote one candidate over another.

Two candidates did not attend Wednesday night's Q & A forum. School Board candidate Steve Schilb was absent due to illness and SFCC Board of Trustees candidate Diana Saddler Martin was absent as well. Merritt said no response was received from Martin when invited to participate.

Dr. Marge Harlan served as the official timekeeper for the event.

Voters will go to the polls Tuesday, April 3 to make their voices heard at the ballot box.
