Lady Antebellum Record ‘Hey Baby’ for ABC’s ‘Dirty Dancing’ Remake [LISTEN]
Ahead of the release of ABC's remake of the classic movie Dirty Dancing, Lady Antebellum have announced that they've contributed a song to the film's soundtrack. The country trio covered Bruce Channel's “Hey Baby,” which also appears in the original movie.
Lady Antebellum are preparing to release their own new album, Heart Break, but the band took some time out of the process to record "Hey Baby" for the Dirty Dancing TV remake, which is scheduled to air in late May. Their contribution will appear on the film's soundtrack alongside songs recorded by the Pussycat Dolls’ Nicole Scherzinger, American Authors and Seal.
Lady Antebellum are not the only country act to record a cover of "Hey Baby": Anne Murray recorded her own version of the song in the early 1980s and released it as a single in May of 1982; her cover hit No. 1 in Canada and reached the Top 10 in the U.S. Conway Twitty, Jerry Lee Lewis and Alabama have also released their own versions of "Hey Baby."
The updated version of Dirty Dancing, which was originally released in 1987 and starred Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, will star Katey Sagal, Sarah Hyland, Debra Messing and Abigail Breslin. The three-hour TV musical will air on May 24 at 8PM ET, in honor of the film's 30th anniversary; its soundtrack is set for release on May 19.
Lady Antebellum's Heart Break is due out on June 9.
