Kenny Chesney Added to 2012 Farm Aid Festival Lineup
Kenny Chesney has been confirmed for this year’s annual Farm Aid concert, with the superstar performer joining an already star-studded lineup — including co-founder Willie Nelson — for the popular benefit event.
“Growing up in a small town outside Knoxville, family farmers were a big part of our community,” Chesney says of his decision to return to the event’s stage, according to CountryMusicIsLove. “I am proud to play on the Farm Aid stage again, especially in Central Pennsylvania, where agriculture is at the heart of the community.”
Also on the performer roster are event co-founders Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews, with Tim Reynolds, Jack Johnson, ALO, Pegi Young & the Survivors and Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real rounding out the impressive 2012 Farm Aid Music Festival lineup.
Established nearly 25 years ago, Farm Aid has raised more than $40 million for American farmers in danger of losing their farms through mortgage debt. The location for this year’s fest was chosen strategically, given that Pennsylvania ranks third nationally in direct farmer-to-consumer sales, and sixth nationwide with some 600 organic farms. The land in south-central region of the state — where Hershey is located — houses large areas of highly fertile farmlands. Agriculture is the state’s leading industry.
The 2012 Farm Aid Music Festival is scheduled to be held at Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey, Penn. on Sept. 22. Tickets for the country’s longest-running benefit concert are on sale now. Click here for more information.
