Kids, everybody knows that summer is here.  Although I told you that I pretty much hate the weather this time of year, there is one thing everyone enjoys, even an old curmudgeon like me: fireworks!  We here in Sedalia love a good fireworks show, regardless of the time of year.  Our 4th of July fireworks display is excellent every year.

This year's fireworks display will be held on the Missouri State Fairgrounds.  The Sedalia Blue Ribbon Committee will present a free fireworks display and entertainment Wednesday night, July 4.  Gates open at 6 p.m. and entertainment will start at 7 p.m.

At dusk, VFW Post 2591 will present the American Flag and  "The Star-Spangled Banner" will be sung.  Then, the fireworks will begin with the last note of the national anthem.  So you know it'll be great.

Even if you can't make it out to the fairgrounds, a lot of us here in town can even see them from our porches.  So as long as you enjoy the display, that's what's important - although you'll get a better show on the grounds.  And, it's free!  If you need any more information, contact cvb@sedaliamo.org, visit mostatefair.com or call (660) 826-2222.

If you can't wait that long, you can also check out a couple more fireworks displays in our area. The Warsaw Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Warsaw are hosting The Dam Experience of 2012 on Saturday, June 30, with a rain date of Sunday, July 1. The annual fireworks show will be launched off of Harry S. Truman Dam, beginning at dusk.

It's simple to get there, just go South on Hwy 65 for about 30 miles, Take the ramp toward Lost Valley Hatchery/Truman Dam Visitor's Center, and there you are. There are plenty of different places you can camp out or park to see the display.

For more information on The Dam Experience, contact Executive Vice-President of the Warsaw Area Chamber of Commerce Betty Mewszel at 660-438-5922.

Enjoy the fireworks!

Sparkily yours,

Behka
