Johnson County Car Fire Quickly Spreads to Other Vehicles & House
Johnson County Firefighters responded to a structure fire early Sunday morning that also involved three vehicles.
The fire was reported shortly after 1 a.m., by a passerby who noticed flames at a residence on SW 675 Road near SW 13 Highway. Upon arrival, fire crews found a house on fire and three vehicles fully involved.
Firefighters initiated an aggressive attack, successfully containing the fire to the vehicles, the exterior of the house near the vehicles, and the attic and roof area above the garage. Two residents were inside the home at the time but were able to escape without injury.
“The high heat and humidity made fighting this fire especially challenging,” said Captain Joe Jennings. “Fortunately, we were able to make a quick stop and prevent it from spreading further into the house. However, the conditions required us to call in additional support.”
Three Johnson County Fire Protection District stations responded to the incident, with mutual aid provided by the Warrensburg Fire Department. The Johnson County Volunteer Fire Auxiliary and the Johnson County Ambulance District were on scene to assist with firefighter rehabilitation, including cooling and rehydration, helping to prevent any firefighter injuries.
An investigation determined that the fire originated in the area of one of the parked vehicles and then spread to the adjacent vehicles and the house.
